海に流したメッセージの行方

As an eleven year old boy in 1985, Donald Wylie tossed a bottle into the Orkney sea, with a message asking its finder to track him down. Today (Thursday 21 August 2008), almost a quarter of a century later, Donald will be reunited with the bottle which eventually washed up hundreds of miles away on the West Sands in St Andrews.
1985年に流したメッセージに、23年ぶりに再会。海辺を清掃していたボランティアたちが発見。
流したOrkneyというのはスコットランド北部の諸島ですね。St Andrewsは同中部。300キロくらいというところ。
ちなみに流したドナルドさんは現在33歳、長年母親に言われて小瓶を流してきたと。これまでノルウェーやデンマークなどから、（もっと早くに）返事をもらったこともあるという。距離としてはそちらの方があるけれども。
ところで、そのお母さん、今もお孫さんに小瓶を流すように言っているというのがいいね。
